Stainless and easy-care screw jack series SSP from Pfaff-silberblau specifically for the paper industry

By | Oct 28, 2011

Thanks to their robust design, the successful SHE screw jack elements from Pfaff-silberblau are perfectly equipped for use in difficult environmental conditions. Designed specifically for use in the extremely aggressive conditions of the paper industry, the company Columbus McKinnon Engineered Products GmbH (Kissing/Germany) has now extended its versatile SHE range with the option “stainless”. The newly developed SSP series from Pfaff-silberblau with integrally cast swivel brackets is easy to clean and satisfies with ease the exacting requirements with regard to corrosion protection in the paper making and processing industry.

Stainless cast steel in easy-care shape

The SSP screw jacks available for lifting capacities of 15 t, 20 t and 25 t are a further development of the predecessor series “SHE with integrally cast swivel brackets”. A striking feature is the new housing from stainless cast steel, which has been designed by a leading industrial designer and is EU-wide patent protected. Here the focus was not only on creating an appealing visual appearance, but also above all on creating a shape that would be easy to clean.

All the components of the SSP series, which are exposed to the harsh exterior influences, are made from tough and corrosion-resistant materials. For example, the whirled precision screw and the bearing and housing covers inside the gearbox are made from stainless steel. The worm wheel and guide rings are made from special bronze. Also, all the DIN and standard parts, such as bolts and lubricators, are made from corrosion-resistance material.

Simplified installation of motor

A further technical refinement is the connection flange for installing the motor at the lifting element, which, in the case of the SSP from Pfaff-silberblau, is no longer screwed from inside, but from outside. The advantage here is that the coupling between the motor and lifting element can now be installed before the connection flange and then the flange afterwards. This new method of installation also dispenses with the need for the radial borehole in the connection flange. This was necessary in the past in order to secure the coupling with the aid of a grub screw, and subsequently had to be sealed. Thanks to this innovation, the SSP dispenses with the bearing covers for the worm shaft used in the past and replaces the tapered roller bearings used to date with angular-contact ball bearings.

The installation dimensions of the new SSP series from Pfaff-silberblau match those of the predecessor series. Also, all the other components such as the worm shaft, worm wheel and screw are virtually identical in terms of their dimensions with the standard SHE screw jacks, which ensures the rapid availability of spare parts.

Specifically for the paper industry

The accessories for the SSP have been redesigned and adapted in accordance with the requirements of the paper industry. By way of example, for the attachment of motors, various connection flanges, couplings with different hub lengths, flexible protection boots from special material for screw protection and of course connecting shafts also for lengths over 6m are available as one and two-parted versions.
